K. Cutt Cars is (almost) open for business!

While waiting for all of my paperwork, licenses and certifications to come through, I thought I would take up blogging on this little site of mine. You’ll see some articles posted relating to the automotive industry, used car sales and tips on how to find the best deals. I’m new at both blogging and dealing so I hope you’ll have fun learning with me!

About me and K. Cutt Cars:

My name is Kyle. I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration with a concentration on Marketing in December of 2008. What that means in a nutshell is that I have spent the last 6 years of my life working towards a 4-year degree and graduated at quite possibly the worst time in our recent history to start looking for a job! I’ve been buying, refurbishing and reselling computers and other items for the last few years on eBay, Craigslist and by word of mouth and I have found that I’m pretty darn good at giving people good products at prices they appreciate. My approach to selling everything from iPods to Hummer H2s has been very effective because I abide by my “Golden Rules of Reselling” which are: › Continue reading

It happened… I’m done! I’m a graduate!

It happened almost a month ago. I walked. I actually turned my tassel and walked across the stage. It was very exciting! I’ve been on an extended vacation (playing video games and sleeping in) for the last couple of weeks and I’m digging deeper into the job search now that the new year is here.

Here’s to the future!

Why the term “Web 2.0″ needs to die.

Adding an ascending version number to something signifies actions as groundbreaking as overhauls, rewrites or revolutions and at the very least implies significant upgrades from one state to another. This is exactly what the web is NOT!

The web, since its inception, has been a continually evolving being. Like a goldfish, it has grown as big as its tank could allow and has been dropped into a bigger container and fed more flakes time after time. It is still the same fish, it has just gotten bigger and required more care and maintenance to keep it thriving. The web, and our fish, has gotten faster, more mature and prettier with age. This kind growth does not warrant it a new version number, it’s still the same web (or fish, what are we talking about?) and at best deserves the designation of “1.1″ at the end of its name.

Social media, user-created content, adorable little omitted vowels and two-tone logos are all children of the web’s coming of age, not some upgrade. Dynamic content, cross-functional operability and the use of the Internet as a platform for application use and development has not been an incredible rewiring of the underlying framework of the web, it has been a necessary evolution of a living, breathing entity that has simply gotten better at overcoming geography, economics and xenophobia to connect the people of the world with each other.

Silly, throwaway terms like “Web 2.0″ negate the work of millions of people coming together for a common good and cheapens the progress they’ve made in nurturing this amazing creation. The perpetuators of this term take something beautiful and make it seem like a disposable, shrink-wrapped commodity heading towards obsolescence.

This is why “Web 2.0″ needs to die.

If you build it, they will come

Yeah, in your dreams. The reality is, before you can build it you need to plan it, pitch it, design it, beta test it and eventually launch it. Still, they’re not going to come.

You can’t just create a good product and expect it to be success. Just because your new social network concept is amazing and will totally kill Facebook and MySpace, no one is going to find out about it because you’re going to bone the execution. You could even have a great established user base after all of your friends from work and the local colleges have created accounts and are pinging or poking or flicking each other. Hell, you could even have some capital built up after your rich uncle and your senile father-in-law fell for your song and dance and wrote you checks. Unfortunately, you’re eventually going to disappoint.

It’s not just the web, we could be talking about a radical new toilet paper dispenser that should take the world by storm. It won’t.

A good idea will only take you so far, it will only attract so much attention. You are nothing without marketing. Knocking on doors, hanging flyers and calling every name in the phone book is a good start, but chances are you have no idea what you’re doing. You have to spend money. You have to spend A LOT of money. If you really do have a great idea and you’ve put your heart and soul into making it happen, don’t let it die because you skimped on promotion.

If you’ve got a genuinely good product or idea and you wait, or even hesitate for a moment, it will be copied, repackaged and launched before you decide which vowel you want to drop in the edgy, web 2.0esque spelling of the name. You need marketing and you need it now.

Someday soon, I’m going to be the guy that makes them come recognize the value of your product.

Marketing Materials: Event invitations

There was an incredible amount of buzz, and uncertainty, surrounding the OS X Leopard release and the MacBook Air launch last year. To make it easier for the staff and faculty of UCF to understand, we threw a couple small informational events to educate interested parties and answer questions concerning the new products.

The following were created in under three or four hours a piece and were intended to be easy to read in an e-mail sent out to invited guests. These were intended to be simple, easy to read and have a small enough file size to be downloaded by users with even the slowest connections.
